MINI SERIESTO BEGIN THIS INVESTIGATION,
we created mind maps to pick an art path and guide our work. After deciding to do portraits and how certain aspects can change the mood conveyed, we made three 5x7 pieces.
The first of mine is made using prismacolor markers, the other two used prismacolor colored pencils. |
INVESTIGATION #4FACIAL EXPRESSIONS
This investigation piece focuses on the subject's facial expression. The angle of the man's head and his eyes looking up through casted shadows creates the feeling that he is mad. His eyes are shadowed by his eyebrows, eliminating the innocent, wide-eyed look. Guiding Question: How can the subject's facial expression convey a mood in the viewer?
Size: 5x7 inches Materials Used: Prismacolor Colored Pencils, White Gel Pen Processes Used: Found reference photo online, sketched the subject, colored picture (original reference photo was in black and white). |
LIGHT AND SHADOWS Guiding Question: How can light create a look of innocence, creating a light, happy mood? Size: 8x10 in Materials Used: Prismacolor Colored Pencils, White Gel Pen Processes used: Find reference, sketch and color, make eyes appear more innocent and glossy, emphasize lips. |
INVESTIGATION #9
For this piece, I investigated how using only one color could portray
a mood in the portrait. Here, I used all red, or shades of red, black,
and white.
Throughout my investigation, huge improvements can be seen.
Although my first pieces were not bad, I am extremely proud of
how later pieces turned out, such as pieces 5, 6, and 9. My typical
medium is colored pencil, and this investigation shows my
experimentation with markers and acrylic paint. I am constantly
working on making my portraits appear more lifelike, when realism
is the goal. Other times, like piece 8, realism was not the main
focus.
Overall, investigation 9 is a favorite, because of the use of acrylic paint,
and I am incredibly proud of how this piece turned out.
